According to His manifold qualities the Supreme Lord possesses an unlimited number of names, among which the Sanskrit name Krishna is seen as the most important one in the Vedic scriptures. In other cultures this same God is named Father, Adonai, Allah etc. The procedure recommended in the Vedas to develop love of God in our time, is chanting (sing or recite) the Holy Names of God. This is substantiated in other revealed religious scriptures of mankind, as e.g. in the Bible: "Hallowed be thy name." The Hare-Krsna-Maha-Mantra is composed of the three names of God: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna This mantra is a spiritual sound vibration addressing directly the spiritual soul. „Hare“ refers to God’s spiritual energy, „Krishna“ means the all-attractive and „Rama“ may be translated as the "origin of enjoyment". The whole Hare Krsna mantra is a prayer in form of addressing the person of God and His energies with the request for devotional service. |
